**Marginal References** A marginal reference is the instrument number or book and page reference of a previously recorded document. For example, a Mortgage Release should reference the original mortgage being released. Affidavits should always include a reference to the document to which they relate. For deeds, references to prior deeds are not indexed separately and do not incur an additional charge. However, references to Land Contracts or Terminations of Life Estates contained within a deed will be indexed and are subject to applicable reference fees.
